Laïla Diallo Rhoda McGaw Theatre, Woking Fri, 5th March 2010 - Fri, 5th March 2010 From £13.00*WDF commission UK première Woking Dance Festival Associate Artist An evening of work including the UK premiere of a new WDF commission by Laïla Diallo (Canada/UK Five (2008) Between the Shingle and the Dune (2005) Imprint (2009) 'new work' (2010) The evening brings together four short pieces by Canadian-born, Bristol-based choreographer Laïla Diallo. Having first come to prominence as a dancer with Wayne McGregor's Random Dance, Diallo has since attracted attention for her choreographic work. Through these four distinct pieces runs the thread of her search for some emotional resonance, for the wonder in simplicity, for the startling in the very human. 'Between the Shingle and the Dune is a vigorous, virtuous and poetic dance.' Erin Whitcroft La?la Diallo La?la is currently an Associate Artist at the Royal Opera House as well as with Arnolfini, Swindon Dance and Woking Dance Festival. She was awarded a Rayne Fellowship for Choreographers in 2006. Sense of Self, a full length evening co-choreographed and performed with choreographer Mélanie Demers is currently touring internationally. Other credits include On the feeling of being together (mapdance company), War and Peace (Canadian Opera Company), All's Well That Ends Well (National Theatre), Thérèse Raquin (National Theatre), Days of Significance (Royal Shakespeare Company), The Vortex (Theatre Royal Windsor), A Doll's House (Theatre Royal Bath) and Macbeth (Scottish Opera on Tour).
