Oh! What A Lovely War Richmond Theatre, Richmond Tue, 27th April 2010 - Sat, 1st May 2010 From £16.00*By Theatre Workshop, Charles Chilton, Gerry Raffles and Members of the Original Cast Title suggested by Ted Allan A show that combines the emotional punch of Birdsong, the satire of Blackadder and the edgy squaddies' humour of Black Watch - that’s Oh What a Lovely War. Created in 1963 by Joan Littlewood and her revolutionary Theatre Workshop, this tragi-comic version of WW1 changed the way we think about war forever. Now, with Iraq and Afghanistan in view, Northern Stage's new production introduces this landmark work to a new generation. A motley collection of musicians, dancers, singers and clowns come armed with sketches, songs and stories for your entertainment, including poignant songs like Pack Up Your Troubles, Keep The Home Fires Burning and It's A Long Way To Tipperary. Co-directed by Erica Whyman (Our Friends in the North, A Doll’s House, Look Back in Anger), and Sam Kenyon (Sweeney Todd, Merrily We Roll Along, Sunset Boulevard), this is musical comedy with a tough, dark heart.
